II.  Strategic Business Institute ( SBI )
Description:   Company Role

The SBI program is designed to match graduate (MBA) students’ interests to EDC companies which  need assistance in management, marketing, and business analysis.  This is done through individualized consulting services provided by the students. The students will carry out the work required and prepare a final report.   The final report will be reviewed and evaluated by the SBI director and, when it is satisfactory, the students will deliver the report to the company in both oral and written form.

The EDC company must submit a “Client Information Form” that serves as an application for SBI assistance at least one week before the class starting date. Your application will be combined with those from other firms and presented to the entire class in a meeting where the students will make decisions on which firms they want as consulting clients. Therefore, the best method of communicating to and generating interest in the students is to make a presentation about your company firm to the students during a regular class period specified by the Director.

The FWS hiring program is basically a semester-based program.   Each hired student comes with a pre-assigned maximum FWS grant money amount. Each hiring company must be aware of this amount and must monitor the balance as it decreases. Once this balance is consumed the student will have to cease working for the company or the company must be prepared to pick up the entire hourly rate. Normally while the student has a balance the hourly rate paid to the student is split between the hiring company ( 1/3 ) and the Federal Gov’t ( 2/3 ).
